
They were then signed by DreamWorks Records and both the album and single were reissued. Edmond, Oklahoma residents Mike Kennerty and Chris Gaylor joined shortly after. In 2001, with producer Tim O'Hier, they recorded their self-titled debut album, The All-American Rejects, and released it along with single " Swing, Swing" towards the end of 2002. The All-American Rejects were soon signed to a recording contract. Same Girl, New Songs soon was sent to independent Doghouse Records, where an intern saved the disc from the trash, and showed it the label owner. Due to tensions in the band, Tim Campbell left.

At the shows, they gave out the Same Girl, New Songs EP, full of demos of songs written by the band. Influenced by The Cure, Jawbreaker, and Green Day, the two began to tour the American Midwest, along with drummer Tim Campbell. The name of the band came from two suggestions: "The All-Americans" and "The Rejects". Tyson and Nick met at a middle school party were, surprisingly Tyson was the doorman. It’s at that point that you’ve truly begun to understand “The Wind Blows”, and with that understanding comes an odd sense of exhilaration.

You go from feeling at ease (it is odd how you are literally reminded of a summer breeze) to feeling a little sad, and as the song plays you realize that despite being a little unhappy, you are still okay. Tyson Ritter’s voice gives the song a whimsical feel edged in sorrow. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but more an exploration of the fact that people come and people go.

The girl leaves his life the same way she entered it: abruptly. The wind blowing is a metaphor describing how whirlwind-like the relationship was. It picks up just as a relationship is at its end. The track carries sentiments similar to “Move Along”, but it has a different kind of groove. “The Wind Blows” is the second single release from The All American Rejects’ third studio album When The World Comes Down.
